November Newsletter – Pomegranates

The Wheel… She turns…
The Veil… She thins…

In the Northern hemisphere is it the time of the Ancestors,a time of introspection, a time to slow down, to go inward, to be quiet. It is the time of the hibernation, time to nest.

The Southern hemisphere is emerging from her shell, ready to party, but I am not there. May those of you on the other side of the equator enjoy your time in the sun!

Our pomegranate trees are ripening early this year, which speaks to the cold and the damp that has come much sooner than is usual. For once, Southern California is having fall, and it feels right. Even as the country and the world is in turmoil and we are being asked to expand our concepts of community, it is still time to look to our homes, to our neighborhoods, and begin to make the changes we wish to see on the home front.

Pomegranates have been powerful symbols in many cultures throughout history. To the Greeks, it was the fruit of the dead, what Hades had tempted Persephone with; more than that, though, it was about unthinking action, leaping before you look, with no concern for the consequences of your actions. We see pomegranates depicted in sacred art, associated with Orion, Hera, Osirus, and even the Virgin Mary. In the Jewish tradition, where they symbolize fertility, an opened pomegranate is seen as the proper design for a crown. In ancient Persian mythology, a pomegranate conferred invincibility on those who consumed it. t takes dedication and focus to reap the rewards of a pomegranate, unless you don’t mind making a mess.

There is something very primal, very Earth Mother, to me in harvesting and preparing pomegranates. I am spurred to start baking, and curing meats, and general making preparations. With all of the turmoil going on in the world, our pomegranate harvest gives me some much-needed balance and helps me refocus myself, so that i can once again be of service where I am most needed.

If you are looking for something to help you refocus, I invite you to join me on November 12th and 13th in Landers, CA, for a gathering at the Integratron, a wonderful, all-wooden, acoustically perfect dome, built on a vortex out in the desert. I’ll be doing a channeling circle in the dome on Saturday evening, and the following morning there will be a sound bath (a blissful experience not to be missed) and then an excursion to two local sacred sites – Giant Rock and Crystal Hill. Registration is closing on November 1st at 11:59pm and space is limited.

I have some other wonderful offerings this month:

Coming in December, I will, once again be participating in the Handmade For All Holidays Gift Boutique on December 2nd and 3rd – if you are in the Southern California area, I invite you to come and support local artisans as you do your gift shopping. I will also be a part of The Crystal Matrix’s Psychic Faire, and will be offering Second Degree Reiki at Everyday Zen Relaxation Studio in Long Beach.

Looking ahead to January, I am anticipating traveling to the Bay Area the weekend of the 20th. If you are interested in a private session or in hosting a Group meditation or class, please let me know. These things do tend to book up quickly.

I hope to see you soon!

May you be the light of the world, and may you have access to the wisdom of all of your Ancestors!
