Chaos is the root of creativity and of creation itself. What could be more chaotic than The Big Bang or childbirth? Spontaneity is inherently chaotic. There is no planning involved in being spontaneous.
If you don’t let loose, if you are always controlled, you never allow for the possibilities. Spontaneity is magical. It opens us up to the Universe, to the Divine, to the All That Is. There is joyousness in being spontaneous.
If you life is lacking sparkle, try being spontaneous every once in a while. I’m not suggesting that you go tearing through the neighborhood covered in purple bubble wrap; but it might be a good idea to let down your guard every now and then, and try something new.
When was the last time you were spontaneous? Spontaneity allows room for Spirit to come in and guide your actions. Sometimes it ends in interesting ways, but sometimes, something truly inspirational can happen. Why not try it?
Jump in a fountain! Sing in a grocery store! Swing on the playground! Wear some cat ears in public! Do some cartwheels! Write a poem! Mismatch your socks! Mismatch someone else’s socks! Tell the people you care about how you feel! Talk to your plants! Talk to trees in the park! Press leaves and flowers in your books! Make a collage from those old magazines before you throw them out!
This post is part of a series called Monday Message, based on that day’s reflection from 365 Days to Enlightenment (authorized versions are currently out of print, working on a new edition). Check back next Monday for another one! You can also sign up for the Daily Message on my mailing list if you’d like to receive a new reflection every day. I also often post them to Instagram, if that’s a medium you enjoy.
