The calendar says it’s almost summer, which means fog and gloom in Southern California. Our functional first day of summer usually happens in mid to late July. Have you ever given much conscious thought to the actual seasonal wheel of where you live? So many people let others dictate their understanding of seasons, whether it’s the calendar or the Celtic wheel or something else, rather than connecting and paying attention to nature. The Celtic/Wiccan wheel and the Gregorian calendar are both actually based on solar astrology, with some weird variations when the two are merged together. Seasonal changes are attached to the solstice and equinox, with the cross quarter observances (Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh, and Samhain) being the midpoints between; but the cross-quarters were then synced up with the Gregorian calendar, and are rarely celebrated when they should be. So it’s all, essentially dogmatic, human construct. Take some time to think about when summer really starts where you live, when its apex is, and when you transition to fall. Connect with that, and you will struggle less.
