Harvest Moon

Full moon is Monday night. Her influence carries over until the wee hours of the morning on Friday. The full moon tends to be a magical time for people. Sometimes that’s good, and we are inspired; sometimes it’s less desirable, and people get a little wacky. When a woman’s cycle syncs up with the full moon, she tends to have an uncomfortable few days. If you take meds to help balance you out, the full moon is the least optimal time to miss a dose. I find, generally speaking, it takes longer for medication to kick in around a full moon.

The full moon is our last hurrah before our energy shifts from socially outgoing to introspective. It’s why most organized observances of the full moon are so ecstatic. Personally, I get a little quiet as we move into full moon, and the last thing I want to do is be around a big group of people. Each to their own, I guess.

The next two weeks are an excellent time for shadow work and personal house cleaning. What in your life isn’t working? Get rid of it. What behaviors are no longer supporting your growth and progress? What beliefs are behind those ideas? How can you shift that weakness into a strength? Do it.

Keep in mind that the New Moon occurs right around Autumnal Equinox (9/22). This is a magical time. If you want to set yourself up for BIG changes, this is the perfect time.

In case you had missed it, we’re in September, the most numerologically potential month of the year. Whatever themes you have been working this year are bound to be extra loud this month, and this is an excellent time to resolve your challenges. The strongest days for that are the 9th, the 18th, and the 27th.

Pluto also goes direct on the Equinox. I don’t know that much about it, but those transition times tend to be potent, and the word Dana Gerhardt uses to describe this one is “explosive”. Take that as you will.

The last few months, I have taken to doing a simple water ritual on the full moon. Water is a great conductor. I fill a sealable jar or bottle with water, take it outside, and look at the moon through it. I sing or chant to charge the water and get myself into the right headspace. I tell the moon my goals, my wishes, my dreams, all while gazing at her through the water. Then I leave the water in the moonlight over night. If I were following the rules, I would bring the jar in before the Sun came up, but I’m fairly solar powered and I like my sleep, so that usually doesn’t happen. I use the water throughout the month for anything sacred for which I need water – offerings, healing, clearing… It has a great feel to it, and I have felt like I’m moving more easily toward my goals.

May you be the light of the world!
