I’ve taken to a new bedtime ritual. Once I’m settled in to bed, I do a little bit of research on a totem or deity or something similar, programming my focus toward that subject. It keeps my brain occupied as my body relaxes, gives me something to do while I’m getting sleepy, and gives me something to work on once I’m asleep. Interestingly, I’ve been sleeping longer and a lot more soundly.
All of the experts on insomnia will tell you to stop looking at any screen (computer or TV) at least an hour before you intend to go to sleep. I understand the theory and I won’t argue with it. I only know that I personally fall asleep more readily playing with my phone, but I do pretty much everything backwards. Back in the day, when I did recreational substances (for which we are long past the statue of limitations), I also fell asleep more readily after snorting a certain white powder. I also start dreaming the moment I close my eyes, whether I’m technically asleep or not, and I spend more time than most people in that dream state. So I’m probably not a good example for anyone of how things work.
Last night, I somehow got caught up in the following quote from the Poetic Edda (Epic poem of Norse mythology):
Mim’s sons dance,
but the central tree takes fire,
at the resounding Giallar-horn.
Loud blows Heimdall,
his horn is raised; Odin speaks with Mim’s head.
Anyone who has taken a class from me is probably aware of the idea that any sacred text has levels and levels of mystic code buried within it. This short verse is no exception, and I suspect it’s going to keep me going for some time.
Some examples:
=> There’s the reference to Yggdrasil, the Norse tree or Axis Mundi, an image that shows up everywhere from Kabbalah to the Celts to the Vedic texts; but it’s lighting on fire, which, to me, speaks specifically to both the Kundalini and the Path of the Flaming Sword.
=> There’s the reference to Mim‘s sons; if Mim is Wisdom, and I’m following the Kabbalah reference, then the sons are Mercy and Intellect. This verse refers to what happens at the beginning of Ragnarok, the war to end all wars, and seems to say that it begins despite Mercy and Intellect.
=> Mimir and Heimdallr each have a horn with the same name – Gjallarhorn. Mim drinks his wisdom from it, and Heimdall blows through it as an alert.
If this sparks ideas or threads for you, do let me know about them; I am curious. I generally follow threads as they spark for me, but this felt like it needed to be shared to a wider audience before it was anywhere near a complete thought. So there you go.
In other news, I’ve been hearing from a number of you that you’ve either been having problems sleeping or simply sleeping too much. I really think this is a by product of the shift energies we’ve been going through. Work on balancing your energy during the day, and allow your body to rest as much as it wants/needs. Your vibration is shifting as it re-aligns with Gaia, Sol, and Sirius. Any and everything you can do to be kind to yourself is really vital right now.
Blessings…
